A third generic semaglutide has approval but no shelf presence. Here is where generic GLP-1 supply stands in Canada as of September 29.

Where generic semaglutide stands

Two generic semaglutide products are on the Canadian market, from Apotex and Dr. Reddy's. Sandoz is the third: Health Canada issued its Notice of Compliance on September 16, 2026. As of September 29, both Sandoz DINs, 02571501 and 02571528, read Approved, not Marketed in the Drug Product Database.

What the status means

Approval says a product may be sold. "Marketed" says a manufacturer has started selling it. Only the second matters to a patient. Until it changes, the Sandoz product cannot be prescribed and dispensed from stock.

What this does not change

Generic semaglutide is a copy of one molecule. It does not cover tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound) or liraglutide (Saxenda), which remain brand-name only. A new semaglutide manufacturer does not alter the availability of those.

We will update this article when the database status changes.

Not a pharmacy
